Monika...Your website is AWESOME, lots of information that I've been looking for. My wife, Barb, and I will be visiting New England in mid Nov, checking out several small towns hoping to find our dream home and just the right area to retire in. We were in coastal Maine 2 yrs ago on vacation and fell in love with the area, but after a LOT of internet research, they have high property taxes in certain areas, along with Vermont and Conn. After much reading and research, New Hampshire is looking better along with S. Maine. I really don't want to have to worry about high property taxes, and yet , we want to be near the coast or lake area. I agree with you that now is the time to buy with the market being low before the upswing next spring. That is why we will be flying back to start serious looking in Nov. As we visit small towns, we'll have a list of things we'd like our home to have for all the agents we talk to. They are: 4-bds, 2-story, 2,200+ sq ft, modern (Not farm house style), full completed basement, enclosed porch or deck, fireplace, 2 car garage-attached, LOTS of shade trees, LOTS of windows and cabinets, and closets, Paved driveway, storage shed, fenced yard. Some of these items are negotiable (3 bds IF large rooms, detached garage, open porch or deck, no yard fence, etc) But we would like to be in the suburbs or near the edge of the country (within 4-5 mi to town). Price not to go over $300,000. I know our house is out there, we've seen it on the internet in Maine but local wasn't quite right. AND...if the seller is willing go negotiate, we would pay CASH. Let me know if you come up with anything. We are open to any small town, friendly, quiet and inexpensive to live in. Thanks for your time. Bob and Barb Gilbert Cactusco2@earthlink.net
