What a wonderful enviromentally friendly post, such great information for Clearwater or anywhere! And you're right about #1 we learned that rafting down the Colorado River for a week. You leave absolutely NOTHING behind.

Missy, most people do a good job and they actually have a rake like tractor that sweeps the beach early each morning in Clearwater Beach too.

The boys are cute they always remember "Leave No Trail Behind" from Scouting.

Your love of Clearwater's beaches shows through in this post.  Great ideas not only for the beach but many of them can be applied to local parks and other natural areas.  We are always preaching #1 to our kids. 

Jack - The pictures you post of the beaches in Clearwater always shows them pristine. I'm sure it's the results of the programs in place. They even name the program - thats a impactful statement to the city's dedication!

Jack what a great post about the beaches in Clearwater. I love the Beach Clean up day what a great activity for the whole community to help preserve such a valuable resource.

Keeping beaches should be a high priority to all of us, taking care of them will insure they are always there for us to enjoy

Jack, I still can't get over how white the sand is in Clearwater Beach Florida. Your love for Clearwater comes through your posts, I really enjoy reading your Localisem Posts.

Jack--Keeping beaches clean all over the US is essential to the preservation of the environment. Whether in Minnesota or Florida, we must protect our water front for future generations. Good post!

Rita - we teach our kids the same - they love our beaches as much as we do. Thanks.

Paula - I think part of the reason Pinellas County has been so pro-active in perserving our beaches is because in Clearwater and the Tampa Bay area our beaches and tourism is our main industry.

Ashley - we have Clean Up days here regularly and they are pretty well attended. It's still amazing the trash and stuff you'll find in the mangroves, etc.  

Thesa - you are so right!

Mana - it's a big part of why we fell in love with Tampa Bay Florida - there's no place like it for us.

Ashley - The Clean Up days area great for raising awareness and also picking up tons of miscellaneous trash from lots of sources - People don't realize things like styrofoam when eaten by a seagull cause them to explode and plastic 6 pack holders can seriously injure fish, dolphin and the likes - it all seems innocent enough - but the consequences for the wildlife can be deadly. 

Jack ~ What a great post on keeping our Clearwater beaches clean!  I use these beaches every weekend and want them to stay as beautiful as they can!  The great thing about our beautiful Pinellas County beaches is that they are not only a draw for tourists looking for a great beach get away in Florida, but also locals love our beaches.  Even though I live here everyday, I love the beauty of our beaches....it feels like a vacation every day ;)

This is my frustration at the state park beach near me - it's such a nice pond, pretty beach, but so many people leave all their CRAP behind, and use the beach as an ashtray.

This is EXCELLENT!!  Clearwater Beach has always been the place to go!  It would be so sad if something happened and it was all lost...  Clearwater Beach is a hot spot and not just for the locals!  It's been featured on TOP 10 BEACHES in America before!!

While Clearwater Beach is indeed beautiful, some of the less known beaches are the ones I go to with my family. Honeymoon Island is a wonderful place to spend the day, as is the little beach up in Tarpon Springs. They are not as crowded, parking is easier and you don't have to drive through a city to get to them!

Jack - great post on what's happening on CLearwater Beach - Can you believe the Sandpearl finally opened today. It's amazing how much the face of Clearwater Beach has changed over the last 3 years.

After another holiday weekend in Florida...it is such a joy to have our beautiful beaches...let's all keep it that way!  I am looking forward to hearing more about Sandpearl!
