Longterm care and Medicare supplement products are a niche of the insurance business that is often overlooked but can have a monumental impact on your business.   Essentially, the long term care product can be compared to an umbrella policy in that it can protect the insured's assets in the event of extended in home care or nursing home care.   In these situations, the long term care policy can save the insured's assets when their existing medical policies have gaps.   Much the same for the Medicare supplement policy; it is designed to supplement a standard Medicare policy and fill in the gaps.   One interesting feature of the supplement policies is that if your customer is in the open enrollment period---a six month period around the 65th birthday---the application process is extremely easy and there is almost no underwriting.   Marketing the long term care and Medicare supplement policies can and should be an important part of your insurance brokering business.
