Build It (A Blog) and They (Customers) Will Come.....

I enjoyed Christine Forgione's interview with Joseph G. Ferrara and Rudolph D. Bachraty III, The Founders of Sellsius°.

Conspicuous by its absence is any real information on Sellisus' mysterious new web product, and when it will finally be unveiled.

And I think, intentionally or not, Sellsius has created a great new marketing technique:

1.  Announce a new product.

2.  Delay delivery of the new product, but in the meantime, create a brilliant blog that ends up on everyone's "must read" list.

3.  By the time you finally deliver your product, all your faithful blog readers will be lined up around the virtual block, eager to buy your new product, now matter what is is.

Well, it appears a Canadian real estate marketing company is now going to try that very same technique:

Check out http://www.livium.com/blog/  No product yet, no description of exactly what the product is, but a good-lookin' blog.

Cheryl,

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that so many hi-tech companies, and now tech-based real estate companies/commenters seem to follow the same basic business model?

1- Form a company with other people's money with a mission about how you're going to "change the world" by"democratizing the XXX industry through technology".

2- Hire a bunch of altruistic employees and pay them next to nothing for long hours.  Hold the "stock options" out as a carrot.

3- Go negative on the XXX industry as you burn through investor's cash .  Pay yourself handsomely along the way.

4- Overpromise the forthcoming technology and underdeliver the product offerings.

5- Fail, fold up, and explain that your idea was just ahead of the market's time.

I am very suspect of these "serial technology entrepreneurs" because they burned me in the late 90s.

Yeah .... there is a pattern there.

I don't think it would take too much of a stretch to apply your sequence to Redfin.   Hmm.....

Caution: CAT BLOG AHEAD

Including random thoughts on life, art, business, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate.

What is a CAT BLOG?

According to Seth Godin: "Cat blogs are for, by, and about the person blogging. A cat blog is about your cat and your dating travails and your boss and whatever else you feel like sharing in your public diary."

Well, I am the boss, my dating years are behind me, but I do love my cats.

Enjoy!
