I was reading a fitness magazine earlier today – and read some interesting things related to nutrition, fitness and health. When you look through these magazines of course you see abs on people who resemble the graphic that Suzanne uses as our symbol.

A thought came to mind as to how can we inspire and challenge one another each month. I have read a few of the posts and think that this will be a good FIRST challenge for everyone despite your fitness level. I think we should have one each month with a different person making the challenge.

Now, I am sure they’re maybe a few things that I have not thought of -- so please make suggestions. I figure we would not start the challenge until July 8th –that way it gives people a chance to enjoy the 4th and any travels. My intention here is to make it a game and fun –will need your suggestions.

The July Challenge” is in the form of nutrition and movement.

#1 - what ever you weigh divide it in half and drink that amount of water each day.

(Example – you weigh 200 lbs -100 ounces of water)

#2 –Eat one vegetable/ eat one fruit each day

#3 – 30 minutes of movement/exercise every other day i.e.) M, W, F

I look forward to reading the comments and to see who is up to the July Challenge!

Aziz,

O.k. a question for you..The fit club is different from the AR biggest loser group, right? So, in a nutshell, what's the difference?

Aziz,

HI, This one I can do!  I know I don't drink enough water, now I can calculate it....Let us know when "check in" time is!

Christopher - Cool Beans!

Larry - sounds good

Lynda --this is my first time hearing of the biggest loser club so you may want to check with Suzanne.  This challenge is health related and if wightloss is a by product -SUPER COOL BEANS!

Suzanne -- good deal -you're in!

Carole -- when do you think would be a good time?

I'm clearly not drinking that much water. The new Pilates machine I bought is still right where I assembled it but with more dust. I do eat lots of fruits and veggies each day. Hmmm...I get maybe one gold star.

I want in!  Here in the Alabama heat #1 will NOT be a problem.  However, #2 and #3 will have to be a dedicated effort to get it together.  I am excited.  Having a group to motivate you will make a great difference.  By the time August gets here these three things will be a habit and it will be like second nature.  I am really excited about this!!  :-D

Aziz - what a gret challenge.  I've been meaning to go jogging with my sons in the morning but going to bed at 3:00 AM takes a toll on me.  I think I will make an effort after reading this.

07/03/2007 08:49 PM by Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate (Majestic Properties)

Kimberly - Awesome --You get it! and I am happy that you are in.  I'll send out a notification on Friday or Saturday.  Trust me --the older you get is when its better to eat more veggies and fruits.

Ines - 3am Wow!  This is coming from a selp professed night owl -- we need sleep!  All of us are different in our needs.  I recommend this book, "The Power of Full Engagement, by Jim Loehr & Tony Schwartz.  its a excellent read.   You'll like b/c it involves sports -its actually how they came up with their theory on managing energy.  I think it should be a must read!

Oh, by the way --start small say a walk during the day and build up to jogging.  Its like your blogging project -walk before you run or is it crawl before you walk:)

07/03/2007 09:42 PM by Aziz Abdur-Raoof,Howard Co. Real Estate Scoop (RE/MAX Rewards)

Aziz- thanks for the book recommendation - I will definitely get it.  I was a work-out addict - taught aerobics 8 to 9 times per week (when I was at UM) and even worked out 5 x's / week with my last pregnancy.  But since the little one was born, my immune system gave out.....hmmmmm....I wonder why.  You are right, I will start small, although I like the idea of being so sore I cannot walk for 5 days.

Rick and I are masochists - you should see him today, he slalomed (I hope this is a word - water skiing with a slalom?) for the first time in over 10 years 2 days ago and the poor guy can't move - it's pretty funny.

So off on a tangent - I will take your challenge and will start small.  Thanks for the advice.

I'm in, but Iam assuming the one fruit and one veggie is in addition to the 4-5 servings you should b eating in the first place, right????

07/05/2007 12:35 AM by Deb Hurt, ABR, e-Pro, EcoBroker, TRC (Exit Realty of Albuquerque)

If I drank that much water I'd definiatly be getting my exercise by going to the little girls room all the time :)

Seriously... I have started drinking alot of the crystal light green tea.  What's in that stuff I got to go all the time.

I'm in for the challange.

07/05/2007 11:19 AM by Angela Harrington Loan Officer Mid- Michigan (PCM Mortgage Solutions)

Rick & Ines -- are you nuts?  You like the sore feeling? I actually understand, I just don't like being sore for a week unless massages are involved.

Deb - You're on the right track and doing awesome!

Angela - Elimination is crucial and green tea ia excellent!  Guess what asparagus is a natural diuretic.

Aziz -  I think this is a great challenge to all of us.  As a somewhat fitness guy myself, there's a lot to be said for how it can positively affect your life & business.

07/06/2007 05:14 AM by Jason Sardi, Pennsylvania Mortgage Broker (First Choice Equity Group Inc.)

Can I throw in a few cool ranch doritos if I promise to weight train and hit the treadmill after?:)

07/06/2007 04:34 PM by Neal Bloom-Realtor ® Assoc.-CRS-Weston FL (RE/MAX Premier Associates)

Jason - glad to hear your into fitness and I agree it can absolutely positively have an impact! Neal - eat a few for me -- I was watching A& E the other day and the snack biz is genormous! It was also fascinating as to how companies like Utz, Snyder's and others got their start.

07/06/2007 09:48 PM by Aziz Abdur-Raoof,Howard Co. Real Estate Scoop (RE/MAX Rewards)

Aziz,

I would love to manufacture some sort of food product. Now if I can only find all the money..liability and idea..I'll be in business.

I work out at the Y in Weston, some of the Dolphins work out with guys from the Ultimate Fitness ..also some former and still active baseball players as well. I try to get in at least 3 times a week with weight training and cardio.

I'm going to write a localism piece on the place.

07/08/2007 01:16 PM by Neal Bloom-Realtor ® Assoc.-CRS-Weston FL (RE/MAX Premier Associates)

Great idea, Aziz!  This should serve as a motivator for people to take better care of themselves.  There's no looking over the shoulder, no proctoring, it's just a guide to help.  I know I don't drink enough water and I'm going to now drink a bunch of ounces each day for a whole week (for starters).  Hopefully that will get me into the mode of naturally drinking more.

I'm on it.  I drink about a gallon of water a day. I am up to 7 miles three times a week.  I feel I should be in far better shape than I am.  I think it's age denial.

I put this on other blogs but it's great www.active.com you can find events and other activities to move three days a week.

07/10/2007 11:25 AM by Chris Elizabeth Griffith ~ Bonita Springs Fl Real Estate (Keller Williams Elite Realty, Bonita Springs, FL)

One week down... I actually made it.  I had my water, I got in my exercise, I did good OK the vegetables (it could be better), but I definitely need to do better with the fruit.  I will try my best to get it in next week.  I am still excited.  One week down... the hardest part was actually getting started.

How was everyone's first week with the challenge?!?!?!?!?!

07/14/2007 10:16 PM by Huntsville Alabama Real Estate Agent, Kimberly Grant (Exit Leon Crawford Realty)

Kimberly - you must feel great!  Great job --

Armando - you're doing it and I am sure that week 2 --you'll get your exercising in for the week

Amazing --How fast one week wil go by --Kimberly asked a good question --HOW ARE WE DOING?

I did well in all departments except -veggies each day.  Chris - 7 miles each time you run --21 total miles a week --WOW --that's awesome.  I know what you're saying from in regards to age --we have to work harder to stay where we are.

Have a great week #2 Everyone -- and check in with us to let us know how week one went for you.

Great post!  Thank you for the wonderful suggestions.  I'm ready to add those items into my daily schedule.

Julie -- good for you -- just remember -- make changes gradually so that it'll become permanent.  I think drinking water is crucial and it seems as though now that we need to be mindful of which brand of bottled water we drink.

Check out this link -- you can save money by purchasing a sports water bottle and using tap water http://www.aquasana.com

Let me know what you think
