You've probably seen any number of ads on TV offering "free" help in checking out the status of your credit.  You're given a toll-free number or web address to contact.  And once you log on or call, you're asked to pay for dubious services to monitor your credit.  Don't fall for it.

The three major credit bureaus have set up their own website that offers legitimate, free annual credit checks.  The web address is: www.annualcreditreport.com  This site is a great resource for anyone who wants to keep on top of their credit rating.
