Most real estate transactions involve a move for our clients, and it is easy for real estate agents to forget that fact as we check off all the details we track from contract to closing.  It is fair to say that most agents think of closing as an ending, whereas it is just one of many many details related to our clients' moving experience.  While our clients expect their move to be a nuisance, they also fear that it could be a nightmare.

I'll never forget something that one of my mentors said to me about 30 years ago, in the early days of my real estate career:  Real estate agents should move every five years to help us remember what our clients go through.  I was reminded of that over the past week, as I helped my daughter relocate across country.

This refresher course in moving has indeed served as a reminder to me regarding the many hassles of dealing with moving companies, weather, utility companies, and more.  The real estate transaction is just a part of the moving experience for my clients - and it is the one thing they don't have to worry about, because I will handle every detail for them!  More than that... I will be sensitive to their concerns about other facets of their move, and do what I can to help them in those areas.  In a perfect world, my clients will have a good move from start to finish, and they'll know that I helped to make that happen for them.

Hi Margaret,

Good reminder and you are so right. I've also heard the same thing about Realtors moving.

Something I've learned over the years, calling immediately after the move is a surprise to the buyers. All too often then are forgotten immediately after closing. Calling back a week later, 2 weeks later, there is always something you can help with.

One great agent I've hear about in Tx. does a 5X5 program. He contacts then once a day 5 days prior to closing. And often we speak with then ore than once a day just prior to closing, right? Then he calls them 5 days in a row immediately after the move, just to see if he assist them. Truthfully, I begin the process, then something else gets in the way at times. I also love making follow up calls within about 2 weeks, they are usually very happy to hear from you.
