I have a garter snake in my front flower bed that shocks visitors from time to time.
He likes to hang out in the clematis right beside the steps. I was ok with him till a few of my friends were saying that they would rather come into the house around back. Believe me I am no fan of snakes. I have whacked quite a few at my creek since living here. Now as long as I see them first I am not too fearful.
I also notice that I am opening the front door carefully again. Just as I did when the Robin family was perched precariously on the wreath. Stepping on him in the night when taking my dog out is not something I want to dream about later.
Yesterday, I decided to relocate him to the creek flower bed. Usually, he appears several times a day to work on his suntan on the clematis. All day I kept an eye on it through the window. Finally there he was! I rushed around to prepare...5 gallon bucket, Bar B Q tongs and a shovel just in case I decide to whack him!
Quietly like an Indian, I tiptoed out to pluck him from the vine with the tongs. I wondered if they were long enough because I didn't want him to wrap up my arm! Reaching out I touched him and whoops! Well...I didn't get a good grip and he slithered off to bug me again today.
I left all my equipment in place and will update you on my progress.
Friends and clients, be very afraid till this commando mission is complete!
You are much kinder to that snake than I am - I do not do snakes - no matter what
