Opt Out of Credit Card Offers

I previously wrote about getting your free credit report. If you followed through with it and received a report, then you will also see who has been conducting "soft hits" to your credit. Those usually result in credit card offers via mail and/or phone. If you would like to eliminate those inquiries and reduce some of your mail, then the next step is to visit this site:

Thanks for posting this. It is amazing how many times I receive letters in the mail asking to establish credits.

I'm going there right now. I'm tired of having my credit pulled and score lowered by all of these companies trying to get me to sign up for credit cards I don't want. -Charles

These are soft hits and won't necessarily lower your score. So I wouldn't be too concerned about that.

Credit scoring is a bit of a mysterious creature. I can probably find a source that will verify it won't lower your score when a company does a soft hit. However, rumor from my mortgage reps tell me that opting out can increase your score by a few points.
