Countrywide Home Loans has revealed that there was a security breach and that people who have their mortgages with their company may have had their social security numbers compromised.
When you get a home loan, you give plenty of information. Enough needed to become a serious victim of identity theft.
Identity theft experts recommend that you check your credit at least once per year, and the federal government has given you the right to do it at no charge.
I've done it. Turns out, it's very easy and fast. I recommend that you do it, too.
There is no catch to get a full copy of your credit report. If you want your FICO scores, however, you may have to pay about $7.95 for each repository. There are three credit repositories (the credit companies), Equifax, Experian and Transunion.
Visit www.annualcreditreport.com and follow the instructions. It took me about 5 minutes to find and print a report from each repository.
If you would rather do it by mail, you can write:

Hilary Wilkinson is an indispensable part of my loan team. She posted her first blog article on Active Rain. This is quality information from someone who is a valuable part of the local real estate community. Enjoy!
I thought this would be an excellent topic for my first blog post...
We got word today that a new mortgagee letter was issued by FHA. FHA will be ringing in the new year with a new down payment requirement. The current minimum down payment is 3% and that will increase to 3.5% as of January 1st.
I know this may not seem like much, but to some this will make or break their deal. Since the first word of "Seller Contributed" down payment assistance going away I have been advising my clients to save their pennies for their down payment and a half of a percent increase could mean a lot more pennies.
If you have buyers that have been sitting on the fence, this information may be just enough to help them take action. Not to mention that mortgage rates are great right now.
I hope that you find this information helpful and are happy to hear about it in advance, not on January 2nd.

Those are original cartoons. If you use them without permission you will have legal problems. :)
The Hemet Home Loan Guy has received word that they've stopped accepting applications as of today. The applications that were submitted before today but don't have the money reserved yet may or may not receive the down payment assistance.
The RHP also offers 20% down and is very similar to the FTHB. Notable differences? This interest-free and payment-free silent second mortgage is forgiven after 45 years (instead of 15), or if the buyer sells the home at or below the County's affordability limits. Also, this program ONLY works for homes outside of city limits (in unincorporated County areas). One nice feature? The income limits are higher...120% of the median income in Riverside County.
In July, the RHP had over twice the amount available as the FTHB. Where does it stand now?
My office has calls in to the EDA to find out. As soon as I know, I will post it.

The program offered up to 20% (maximum $75,000) down payment assistance to first time home buyers with low income (80% of the County median income). The buyers are not required to make any payments on the down payment assistance, and if they kept the home for 15 years the second mortgage is forgiven.
The program had just been funded July 15th, but notice came out today from the Economic Development Agency that it was set to run out of funds by the end of September. That means that all the money for qualified first time home buyers had been used up within just over two months!
Home prices in the Inland Empire (Hemet, San Jacinto, Temecula, Murrieta and the surrounding areas of Riverside County) have dropped substantially. The good news is that more working class families have been able to take advantage of great programs like this. The bad news? That the programs have run out of funds in record time. Some programs show no sign of coming back in these difficult economic times.
There is another program from the Riverside County EDA that is for Moderate Income first-time buyers (those who make 120% or less of the median income) called the Redevelopment Homeownership Program.
The RHP also offers 20% down and is very similar to the FTHB. Notable differences? When I go to see a movie, all I want is a great story, powerful performances, a few laughs and a way of looking at the world that challenges my mind. Is that too much to ask? :)
Okay...that is too much to ask of every movie, I know. But in this case, Hollywood has delivered.
Traitor is a pulse-pounding thriller. But it's more than that. It's the story of a man of faith (Hotel Rwanda's Don Cheadle) stuck in the middle of the war on terror.
I was shocked that critics were 'meh' on this movie. I was riveted. It worked as a mystery, as a thriller, and as a meditation on the boundaries between religious conviction and civil duty.
Another surprise: The moview was co-written by Steve Martin. Yes, the legendary comedian who, nonetheless, is in the Pink Panther remakes.
The biggest surprise: this is from the same director that brought us the clunky piece of eco-disaster The Day After Tomorrow - Jeffrey Nachmanoff.
I also think that, like Hotel Rwanda, the movie works as political propoganda. I can't help but think that this is the sort of movie that could actually change hearts and minds in regards to radical Islam. It didn't paint a black and white picture of the west versus the middle east, but recognized the tensions and hypocrisy in both...presenting compelling portraits of both an FBI straight-arrow (LA Confidential's Guy Pearce) that is the son of a baptist preacher AND a terrorist cell leader (Saïd Taghmaoui) trying to stay true to his convictions.
This 3BR/2BA home is ready for you! 8000 square foot lot located on the corner for added privacy. Covered patio out back offers shade for summer barbeques. The fireplace, surrounded by built-in shelves, is in the spacious great room. The cute kitchen is accented by a garden window over the sink. Bedrooms are roomy, and the established landscaping is gorgeous!
